In all honesty it is probably one of the best things to happen with HTML5. The language is simple and you can rapidly develop games of pretty much any type using GameMaker HTML5. One of the main bonuses in my opinion is development speed as it allows you to rapidly prototype a game. It may be lacking right now in a few areas but this is promised to get better with the release of GameMaker Studio which will fix a lot of the problems during the switch over.

There are still a few fundamental, in my opinion, functions that don’t work but most of these should be worked out in the future. The biggest downfall right now is probably browser support for HTML5 is so random and hit and miss that you really have to test your game to make sure it works on as many browsers as possible.

Over the next few weeks I will be making more posts on earning money through browser based HTML5 games. My most recent experiences haven’t been the best but I think it can help others benefit.

Also we are currently looking for more writers for the blog so if you are interested let me know by leaving a comment here.

Stencyl 2.0 Has Arrived

April 20th, 2012 | Posted by GFroning in Development Tools - (0 Comments)

The game creation tool Stencyl has been updated to version 2.0 which includes some new features and additions to the layout. It also seems that Stencyl is following suit of a couple of other game creation tools by releasing different platform exports as extra purchases. For example if you purchase Stencyl 2.0 Pro you get iOS and flash game support then you will be able to purchase other export support.

Indie Game Feature: PIXEL Blast

April 17th, 2012 | Posted by GFroning in Game Reviews - (0 Comments)

Here is our first Indie Game Feature/Review and it is for a game developed using HTML5. The game is called PIXEL Blast and is almost a sort of take on asteroids with a twist.

You are welcomed by a small intro animation and then a simple and clean menu which does its’ function well enough.

The game is played using WASD and shooting with the mouse. It is a rather fast paced game but it all blends together very well and provides an enjoyable experience. The controls do get a little awkward every once in a while but you should get used to them pretty quickly.

So overall the game is very good and is a blast to play. If you want to check it out click the play link below and it will take you over to Kongregate to play the game.

HTML5 The Mobile Front Future?

April 13th, 2012 | Posted by GFroning in News | Uncategorized - (0 Comments)

This topic is really starting to become highly debated in a few discussions I have seen.  Support for HTML5 is really starting to heat up and is becoming faster on mobile devices as manufacturers start to create more powerful devices.

My question to all of our readers here at IndieGame.us is do you think it is the future? The capabilities of HTML5 is growing at a very fast rate and on PC’s some pretty good looking games have been created.

I personally have published an HTML5 based game on android and it performs well enough to provide a good experience. Below I have included some links to some HTML5 projects I really think stand out.

Here at IndieGame.us I hope to show a great deal of engines and tools for game developers. This will be my first post including a few top suggestions that I have used myself in the past.

OGRE3d

OGRE3D is an open source graphics engine that has been around for quite some time now and has been used to create a lot of great games. OGRE is completely free and can be used to develop simulations, games, and other visual projects. You can use Ogre to develop in visual c++ or even Code:Blocks under windows. I personally prefer Code::Blocks for the most part as visual is a little too chunky.

GameMaker

GameMaker is a great educational and entry tool for those looking to get a start in game development. With its’ simple and easy to use interface you can literally create fully working games in minutes. The main draw back of GameMaker is performance but it is getting better especially with the release of Studio soon which will allow you to develop for multiple platforms including IOS, Android, Windows, HTML5, and Mac.

Panda 3D

Panda 3D is another free 3d game engine that has been used to create games by Disney. The engine can be used either through python or c++ so it is great for varying levels of experience with programming.

For full lists of features and more information I have included a link to each engines website for more information.

Also if you have a news tip there is a news area in the forum where we will get news from users that post there. So please feel free to post there or even request a review of your game you have developed. Please specify the engine you used and other important details too.
